The Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon

The Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon , OH My! What can I say about The Dusty Show?
It is a little odd.
There is a host (Clay Pigeon?).
The host does a good deal of talking.
He sounds like he is phoned in or has phone sounding compression on his voice. This gives the production an on-location sort of feel. He talks to some just folks types somewhere in America about their feelings about various things. He is a rather good interviewer of these just folks. Sometimes he plays music. The music is not phoned in. It is put together in some sort of studio. It is an easy but highly produced hour that often does a rather good job at providing interesting entertainment.
The show comes out of the long time "Free Form" New Jersey radio station WFMU. It is extensively archived on the page: The Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon.

Just googled that show, your post came up... he goes around places in New York, like Union Square, where I was, and just talks to people with a tape recorder! He's a tall, skinny guy with longish grey hair in a beige trench coat. Kind of cool, in an old fashioned fast-talking radio show kind of way, but also kind of annoying in that it feels like he tries to rush you and sensationalize what you say for the radio. It was an amusing experience though, being interviewed!

Yeah Hanna. I know exactly what you mean.
My post was written over a year ago and now we all have more info on his thing.
It is really interesting to hear from a Dusty interviewee.
I can hear how he leads the interviews sometimes, but still it is a really interesting show most of the time,
I'll have to re-listen to your part.
Thanks for commenting.

He's a very creative guy. Sometimes he reads original writings. They're quite good. His "studio" is a duel cassette deck, a turntable and a micro cassette recorder.

Dusty is AWESOME!!! He is old school in a great way. Once you get where he is coming from, you realize his brilliance.

I was interviewed by him last night and at first I didn't really think it was a "real" interview. He's a low key guy. Very hippie-esque. Unassuming. Soft spoken. I don't know if he really leads the interviewer or if he is trying to qualify their remarks, thereby making the interview more interesting or complete. I will check the show out tonight. I remember WFMU from my college days, lightyears ago. From their website it doesn't look like much has changed, which might be a good thing.

Dusty is great. He does sort of lead the interview -- but often he's trying to put a more humane/generous spin on what people say. So if he gets some horrible angry person saying objectionable things, he'll try and get them to continue to express their opinions in a more positive way. I think it's sort of a hippie "we're all one family" vibe he tries to get across.

Julie is the unsung heroine of that show. I'm in love with her just 'cause of her voice. Wish they'd let her talk more...
